The Evening Fix... now with added photos of unsuspecting commuters

Here are the things we learned, loved and shared today.

HERE ARE THE things we learned, loved and shared today.

THINGS WE LEARNED

#JAIL: Patrick O’Brien, the 72-year-old man found guilty of the rape and indecent assault of his daughter, is spending his first night  in jail tonight after a judge revoked his bail. Mr Justice Paul Carney apologised to Fiona Doyle for the situation which saw her father allowed out on bail.

#CROKE PARK: Gardaí are expected to withdraw from the Croke Park negotiations after their representative organisation failed to reach an agreement on cuts to pay and allowances with government officials.

#DEATH: IRA veteran Dolours Price, who had accused Gerry Adams of direct involvement in the killing of Jean McConville, has died. Her death could have implications for Sinn Féin due to interviews she did with Boston College about the IRA which can now be made public.

#CRASH: Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the World Economic Forum at Davos that Ireland has been “through a hurricane” in its struggle to deal with the economic crisis. Here’s what else he had to say about Ireland’s economy.

#JUSTICE SYSTEM: A 16-year-old Dublin boy has asked to be jailed for a series of petty crimes so that he can complete the Leaving Certificate. A judge at the Children’s Court granted his request and sentenced him to sixteen months in total, RTE News reports.

#WINNING: It’s the Marmite of Irish television programmes – some hate it, some love it – but Mrs Brown’s Boys has further cemented its winning ways after it was named the best sitcom of the year at the National Television Awards in London.

THINGS WE LOVED

  • The only good thing about commuting by public transport is getting to watch other people – which is exactly what Rebecca Davis has done. Over the series of a year, she took these photographs of people on the New York subway and put them all together into this video:

THINGS WE SHARED

  • Take a minute to think of a famous film scene set outdoors. Now imagine what it would look like if it was viewed from the Google Street View car. Someone has done exactly that with the Google Street Scene Tumblr, which is weirdly compelling. Take a guess at this one (clue: it’s a Coen Brothers film…):

Are we heading in the direction of Bolivia back in the 90′s with the IMF co-running our country! Will they introduce water meters for the rain that falls on us?.. If Bolivia were the guinea pigs are we the text dummies?.. They had years of civil war from it.

Closer fiscal union with shared sovereignty (according to Herman von Rumpy pumpy our unelected European president) and or hyper inflation, carbon taxes and indentured servitude for future generations as we pay off debts created for just such reasons.

We’re so rich our little country can afford to put €85 billion into our banks!
