Det Garda Adrian Donohoe to be laid to rest on Wednesday

The funeral of the murdered garda will take place in Co Louth. The investigation into his death continues.

DETECTIVE GARDA ADRIAN Donohoe, who was shot dead during an armed robbery at a Credit Union on Friday night, is to be laid to rest on Wednesday.

The Cavan native will lie in repose at his home from 12 noon until 6pm tomorrow, and he will be removed on Wednesday to St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church, arriving for mass at 12.30pm. He will be buried at Lordship cemetery.

A burned-out car was found in South Armagh yesterday, and the discovery is being investigated by gardaí and the PSNI. The PSNI told TheJournal.ie that at this point it had no information linking it to the murder, but it is believed police are awaiting the results of technical examinations.

Investigation

Gardaí are continuing to investigate Det Garda Donohoe’s death in Co Louth, which occurred as he and a fellow garda, Detective Garda Joe Ryan, were on duty as cash escorts at the Lordship Credit Union,  at around 9.30pm on Friday. They were to escort a member of staff bringing cash from the Credit Union at Bellurgan in Jenkinstown into Dundalk.

The 41-year-old father of two approached four men in a car at the scene and was shot in the head by one of them.

It is reported that the armed raiders fled the scene with around €4,000 in cash, heading in the direction of Dundalk. Today, Ciaran Brennan, head of the Irish League of Credit Unions, told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that some of the credit union staff who were on duty at the time are traumatised by the incident. Det Garda Ryan is also said to be extremely traumatised by the event.

A book of condolences has been opened in Lordship at St Patrick’s FGC club. More than 40,000o people to date have liked a Facebook page set up in tribute to Garda Donohoe.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the incident room at Dundalk Garda Station at 042 938 8470, the Garda Confidential line at  1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

It will end when they just admit the euro experiment for a world currency has failed, until ( and it will never happen) all countries of the world have an equal economic footing this is beggars belief… The punt in it’s new form has been printed and is waiting in the wings.
