THE FORMER US congresswoman who nearly died after being shot in the head in Arizona two years has told a US senate committee that it must act to tackle gun violence in America.
Gabrielle Giffords addressed the US senate judiciary committee yesterday urging the panel that is examining new measures to reduce gun violence to “be bold”.
Her testimony came in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting which left 27, including 20 children, dead last month.
Giffords was shot in the head while chatting with constituents in Arizona in January 2011 but survived the shooting, which killed six people, before she underwent a lengthy recovery process.
However she was forced to resign her congressional seat last year as she continued her recuperation. The effects of the shooting were evident in her staggered and brief but powerful speech to senators accompanied by her husband, NASA astronaut Mark Kelly:

Odd, that the gun nuts are silent on this. Well said by Ms Giffords. She is unlikely to be invited as an NRA guest speaker.
