BATTEN DOWN THE hatches: it’s going to be windy out there tonight.
Met Éireann has issued a yellow alert for the entire country, warning that people should take care as severe winds hit all counties.
Snow is also forecast across much of the country during the night, which Met Éireann has warned could lead to blizzard-like conditions when combined with the strong winds. Roads are likely to become slippery overnight and into tomorrow morning as temperatures remain low.
Winds are expected to reach up to 110 km/h across counties in Connacht and coastal areas of Munster, while winds across the rest of the country will hit between 80 and 90 km/h.
Temperatures are expected to drop to -1 tonight, but Met Éireann has warned it will feel “bitterly cold”.
Any remaining snow is expected to melt away by Tuesday afternoon.
The yellow alert is part of a new weather warning system which has been introduced by Met Éireann to warn the public about potentially hazardous or extreme conditions. A yellow alert means people may be at risk because of their location or activity and should be aware of any potential hazards.

“Yellow” means that it might snow or it might not snow. If it does not snow, there will be no snow but if it snows, there may be some snow. if it snows, it might be light or heavy and the roads may or may not be dangerous.
It is the same with registering for the household charge and water charges. You can register as yellow, which is that you might or might not pay but that if you pay you will and vice versa.
