@Graham Manning: I worked one Xmas there. Hated it. Friends did the same in another branch. Loved it. Depends on managers and store I think.
Haven’t folded a jumper since 1983. Refuse. They didn’t like the Xmas staff back then and proper order too. We were getting paid more!!. So we got the really bad chores.

But you’re right, 95% of retail staff are actually very helpful, you get the odd disgruntled older person and younger person who doesn’t care but you thankfully you get so many of all ages that are just enthusiastic to help you out and will go out of their way to help you find some weird shlte the wife has sent me for. I’m glad they get rewarded for their work and a union being useful too is good to see.

Some how I’d say Mandate had little or nothing to do with the workers getting this well deserved pay increase……I’d say it was a case that the workers did all the heavy lifting and the union a glory hunting especially how Mandate were shown to have done nothing to support the Debenhams workers……even to this day the workers have not received a cent of the so called training fund which turned of to be an ECF fund they were entitled to anyway (and no I’m not an Ex-Debenhams worker I’m working in the private sector who seeks out the facts)

I’ll never forget them when they wouldn’t stop zero hours contracts.

Once, years ago when unfortunately I was with no job between the jobs, I went in to Dunnes Stores to apply for a position with them. I had a stubble at the time. They told me if I want to work for them, I’ll have to wear no jewellery and be clean shaven for every shift. The job was stacking shelfs. Enough said.

Fair play to them for keeping the country going when everyone else was hiding indoors, they deserve every bit of their 10%, as do all essential workers who had to get out and work face to face with the public every day since the pandemic started and hadn’t the option of hiding out in the comfort of their own homes during lockdown.
