GOOGLE HAS RELEASED an advertisement showcasing what it hopes could be its breakthrough in the next evolution of internet use: an augmented reality-style pair of glasses.
The video above showcases its ‘Google Glass’, which incorporates some features of a smartphone allowing users to take photos and videos, and send messages, directly through voice commands.
The clip shows that the glasses can be activated by simply speaking the command, ‘OK, Glass’, followed by the particular command – such as “take a picture”, or “Google jellyfish”.
The glasses have a built-in camera which can be used to relay photos and videos – including live calls – to recipients, who see exactly what the user sees.
They also have a built-in GPS unit which can be used for navigation instructions through the likes of Google Maps.
The video also includes footage shot during a fashion show by Diane Von Furstenberg last September – when models took to the runways in New York wearing the specs.
The product is still some way off mainstream sale – the search giant is still searching for ‘Explorers’ to help refine the product before a mass release. Even then, successful applicants are asked to pay $1,500 (€1,120) – plus tax – and be able to pick up their kit in person.
