Special K recalls cereal in US over broken glass fears

The company said the limited recall was a precautionary move.

THE KELLOGG COMPANY in the United States has issued a recall of boxes of its Special K Red Berries cereal over fears that they could contain fragments of broken glass.

The voluntary recall includes three sizes of packages being sold at various American retailers. The firm has asked customers to check details against the recall notice.

Kellogg’s said it would provide a replacement coupon to all affected consumers. It may also make arrangements for retrieval to allow for further evaluation.

There have been no reports of any injuries associated with the product and Kellogg’s said the recall was a precautionary measure.

“Our number one priority is the quality and safety of our foods. All of our processes will be thoroughly reviewed and appropriate actions will be taken to help prevent this situation from happening in the future,” it said in a statement.

This is the second recall by Kellogg’s in recent times. Back in October, staff were concerned that metal mesh fragments could have gotten into boxes of Mini-Wheats. According to US sources, that recall cost up to $30 million.
