POLICE IN MOZAMBIQUE are investigating the death of an Irishman who died while working on a construction project in Mozambique yesterday.
William Deasy, 32 and originally from Cork, was originally said to have been shot while working on a project for Kentz Engineering in Moma in north-eastern Mozambique.
However, it has emerged that he was the victim of a serious assault.
Deasy’s death is now being investigated by police in Mozambique with his family not wishing to comment further while an investigation is under way.
A statement from Kentz said: “Kentz confirms the death of a team member, who was on project assignment in Mozambique. The individual was a 32 year old Irish man and his family have been informed, we are in close contact with them during this dreadful time.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and express our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of our deceased team member. A full investigation is under way by local police authorities in Mozambique.”
A spokeswoman for Kentz said this morning that the company had no further comment to make in relation to the death of their employee.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it had been in touch with Deasy’s family and was providing consular assistance through its ambassador in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.

I would have been on many a night out with Will and all i could say about him is he was a pure gent , very inoffensive and always up for a laugh, i’m not privy to the exact details surrounding his death yet but as for the statement “Sounds very random that a construction worker gets shot dead for no reason” i feel your trying to imply he done wrong did you ever think of the old reliable robbery it is after all a extremely poor volatile country.
this region of mozambique (moma, angoche district) is known to be a very quite place and people really peaceful.

Can seriously say, Will was the salt of the earth,, happy go lucky friendly kinda guy. He was a model son and never brought trouble to his parents door I could be here all day singing his glories. He is badly missed and if love could have saved him, he would still be here. We love you Will. Rest in peace.
Will was an old boyfriend of mine and we were still in touch a week leading up to his tragic death. He had worked so hard to gain his qualifications and dedicated himself to furthering his career. A true gentleman with wonderful family morals, I am devastated to hear about his death. May you rest in peace Will away from the evil people who have done this to you.
