Man dies in Galway crash in early hours of the morning

The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the Headford to Galway Road.

A MAN IN his early 30s has been killed in a single vehicle car crash in Galway in the early hours of this morning.

The crash happened just before 2.45am on the Headford to Galway Road around 6 miles from Galway city.

The 31-year-old who was the sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s body has been removed to University Hospital Galway.

Gardaí in Galway have appealed for any witnesses to the crash to come forward, in particular anyone who travelled on the Balrobuck Beg to Balrobuck More Road in the time running up to 2.45am. Witnesses are asked to contact Gardaí in Mill Street on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

The road remains closed this morning while a forensic examination of the scene takes place.

    Very sad alot of car deaths lately very sad indeed

    very sad indeed, unfortunately over the years I’ve noted too many car deaths in the early hours, many caused by by falling asleep at the wheel, this serious risk really should be hi-lited in the same way as speed by the RSA

    The RSA recommend two coffees and a nap. There are simply not enough places to purchase coffee late at night. No service stations on our motorways or places to pull in safely for a nap.
