The 9 at 9 Good morning. Here are the nine stories you need to know as you start your day.

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know as you kick off your day.

1. #CAESAREAN: A Waterford hospital went to the High Court to obtain an emergency order to carry out a Caesarean section on a woman who was almost two weeks overdue and refusing to consent to the procedure. The hospital had said there would be a grave risk to both her and the baby if she did not have a Caesarean. RTE reports that the woman consented to the procedure on Saturday night.

2. #SHOOTING: Three men have been charged at the Special Criminal Court over their role in the fatal shooting of Peter Butterly in a pub car park in Meath on Wednesday, RTE reports.

3. #KENYA: Uhuru Kenyatta, one of the richest men in Kenya and who is currently facing charges from the International Criminal Court, has won the country’s presidential election with 50.07 per cent of the vote. The Guardian reports that his rival has refused to concede defeat amid speculation that a legal challenge alleging electoral fraud is likely to be lodged.

4. #ABORTION: The Sunday Times reports that leaked documents show anti-abortion group the Pro-Life Campaign had budgeted to spend €334,000 in January and February of this year campaigning against legislation for abortion. The PLC has said the figure is an exaggeration and that it has actually spent around €250,000 so far this year.

5. #FARMERS: Farmers are to protest outside Dublin Castle during a visit by the European Commissioner for agriculture on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy on Monday morning. The Irish Farmers’ Association met with Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney yesterday following a protest but described the discussion as “rough enough”.

6. #PENALTY POINTS: Independent TD Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan had penalty points wiped from his record after he was stopped for driving while using a mobile phone, the Sunday Independent reports. However Flanagan has taken to Twitter to say that he plans to tell the Dáil on Tuesday that Gardaí contacted him asking if he wanted the points removed.

7. #FALKLANDS: People in the Falklands Islands are going to the polls today to decide whether or not to remain a British territory. The BBC reports that the electorate is likely to overwhelmingly vote in favour of staying a British Overseas Territory, despite attempts by Argentina to lay claim to the islands over recent decades.

8. #BRRR: Planning on leaving the house today? Wrap up warm: Met Éireann is predicting low temperatures over the next few days with snow showers and icy conditions expected.

9. #MOTHER’S DAY: Did you remember? Today is Mother’s Day, so there’s still time to get a card and some flowers if you forgot. Here’s some suggestions for presents – the good, the bad and the downright bizarre – just in case you need some inspiration.

To maintain stability fiat currency systems require constant monetary expansion. To facilate constant monetary expansion bankers need a constantly expanding portfolio of products and enterprises to invest in. Initially, they can invest in proprietary areas, but ultimately end up investing in dodgy derivatives and Mexican banks. Where possible politicans, central bankers and regulators will turn a blind eye.
” Today’s worldwide paper-, or “fiat-,” money regime is an economically and socially destructive scheme — with far-reaching and seriously harmful economic and societal consequences, effects that extend beyond what most people would imagine.

Fiat money is inflationary; it benefits a few at the expense of many others; it causes boom-and-bust cycles; it leads to overindebtedness; it corrupts society’s morals; and it will ultimately end in a depression on a grand scale.”

By the time my grandson is 40, there will be a world of over 10 Billion people. Is Market capitalism really the most appropriate system for such an immense amount of people? Surely this system will lead only to wars, disease, famine…the horsemen of the apocalypse….. When shall we start thinking of a new system to protect and not destroy humanity?
