The 9 at 9 Nine things to know this morning: black box retrieved from fatal Cork crash; Sinn Féin set to announce job creation plans; and Jedward heading to the Eurovision.

Every morning, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you really need to know as you start your day.

1. #CORK CRASH: The investigation into Thursday’s fatal Cork plane crash continues today. The plane’s black box has been recovered and will be examined for information about the flight. The Spanish pilot who died in the crash had only recently begun captaining flights, although he had held a pilot’s licence for some time, according to Spain’s Regio7.

2. #GE11: Election campaigning continues today, with Sinn Féin set to announce its job creation plans later. The leaders of the other parties will continue meeting prospective voters during their constituency tours around Ireland.

3. #EGYPT: Today is Egypt’s first day post-Mubarak, after the president announced yesterday he was stepping down with immediate effect and transferring power to the military. Thousands of Egyptians cheered and began celebrating as news broke. US President Obama said Egypt must now move towards civilian and democratic rule, the BBC reports.

4. #ALGERIA: Taking heart from Egypt’s pro-democracy demonstrations, Algeria is preparing for a day of action today, despite a ban on protests in the capital. The AP reports that hundreds of police began taking positions in the streets of Algiers last night ahead of today’s action.

5. #HEALTH: The World Health Organisation has said alcohol is a bigger killer than TB, AIDs or violence, and it causes around 2.5 million deaths every year.

6. #COURTS: A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years for dangerous driving causing the death of Garda Robbie McCallion. The final year of Jamie McGrenaghan’s sentence has been suspended, the Irish Independent reports. Last week he was found not guilty of the manslaughter of McCallion.

7. #SUNDAY TRIBUNE: The National Consumer Agency says it has begun legal proceedings against the Irish Mail on Sunday over the paper’s imitation of the front page of the Sunday Tribune last weekend, the Irish Times reports.

8. #EUROSONG: Dublin duo Jedward have been chosen by a jury and public vote to represent Ireland at the Eurovision in Dusseldorf in May with their song Lipstick. The brothers were favourites going into last night’s selection process on the Late Late Show.

9. #SCIENCE?: Reuters reports that a new poll shows that almost one-third of Russians believe the Earth is actually the centre of our solar system and 29 per cent said that the first humans lived alongside dinosaurs.

Unofficial ones have been around for a couple of years now.

I’d be interested in a GPS mapper for my dog. The little git gets up to all sorta when he’s out of sight.

There will be knock-offs, for 1/10 the price on eBay by the end of the week. Genuine GoPro gear is completely overpriced.

Two points. I have a German short haired pointer. If she had that strapped to her back she would bash it to pieces the first set of bushes she would head for. Secondly watching a dog galloping at high speed by go pro is nauseating and dis orientating . Expecting micro chip sized gps to be available within five years. Current Gps are still too bulky.
