Sky News reporter broadcasts arrest live on TV

The reporter said he and his team were detained due to an issue with displaying the passes they needed to film in the area.

A SKY NEWS REPORTER who was arrested in Beijing today was able to broadcast live as he was taken away in a police van.

Mark Stone was arrested with his crew while filming in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, which was the location of student-led demonstrations in 1989.

While broadcasting his arrest, Stone was able to film for Sky News, explaining that he believed the authorities did not know the footage was being broadcast live.

Sky News said that Stone was detained while filming in Tiananmen Square, though he and his team had permission. They were told they did not display their passes correctly and Stone did not have his passport with him, the reporter told Sky News.

He was later able to return to the news broadcaster’s office in Beijing.

Censorship is still running amok in China, not surprised either. You gotta give it to Mark Stone he can certainly report under pressure.

Its alive and kicking in Ireland also … Only for the Journal.ie, we would never have heard about the protestor who was ready to set themselves alight outside the Dail last week…
We dont see any of the incidents that happen at the shell to sea protests… RTE censor anything that could harm/impact the Government.

That guy outside the Dail was hardly a major story though and it was widely reported. Don’t know if RTE carried it but it’s a local news story.

I noticed the same atmosphere at the shell to sea protest meetings. Trust me, the Gardai are under very strict orders to watch everyone involved.
I was also in Tianenmen, and i do know what you are talking about…
There are about 3-4 key-words that if said aloud in the square, will guarantee you a quick free one-way flight home from China.
But in truth, i found the Police in general very very polite and courteous at all times during my entire visit to the country.

Jesus wept. You lefties are unbelievable. A news team with permission to film in Tianmin square are arrested for absolutely no good reason and you lot try and turn it around and make out it was their fault. And only for it going out live you would claim it was all fake.

The point is the fact that they were taken away from Tienanmen Square in the first place, despite having done little, if anything wrong. It is dramatic as usually we don’t see journalists dealings with police.
