Visitors warned to stay away from Beaumont Hospital

A total of 187 cases of influenza have been recorded at the hospital – and Beaumont is trying to stop that number from getting any higher.

BEAUMONT HOSPITAL HAS urged potential visitors to stay away over the long weekend as it continues to battle an outbreak of influenza.

A total of 187 cases have been recorded at the Dublin hospital since the current outbreak began more than one month ago.

The hospital has appealed to the public to avoid visiting the hospital unless absolutely essential and said that no children are permitted to visit in any circumstances.

Visiting will be limited to two hours in the evening time when only one visitor will be allowed per patient in exceptional cases.

The hospital also warned anyone with flu-like symptoms not to visit the hospital other than for essential medical treatment as flu is highly contagious.

The restrictions also apply to Beaumont’s other campuses at St Joseph’s Hospital in Raheny and the Raheny Community Nursing Unit in Dublin 5.

I lost my 50 year old brother to pneumonia 7 weeks ago in Galway. Am completely heart broken . Don’t think they new what they were treating him for. Trouble is , we have to believe what they say.

Sorry for your loss. I would at the same time refrain from saying irresponsible things like “trouble is, we have to believe what they say” and “don’t think they knew what they were treating him for”… It seems that you are implying some sort of negligence/incompetence and/or hospital staff lying to you. I would imagine while your brother was in hospital everything possible was done to save him by everyone involved.

Very sorry for ur loss .. I’m not a fan of this hospital … I know someone who went in with a lot of blood loss from vomiting . When they discovered it was an ulcer they did nothing person bleed out and had14 units of blood and took 2 strokes .. Never woke up .. They should have operated instead of leaving this person with no treatment after a few days been admitted …

Why is it that Beaumont Hospital seems to have these restrictions so often? Is the incidence of flu and winter vomiting bug higher there than in other hospitals?

Not sure where u are getting your information from, but beaumont hospital hospital was off call to emergency ambulances once for three hours this year. And also opened its doors to help with the mater move recently. If u call that off loading….!!!

On a BH weekend more people are free to visit patients, more patients are hanging around well enough to see visitors because they’re mostly just waiting for things, and there are fewer members of staff around to police normal restrictions.
