NELSON MANDELA REMAINS in hospital today, receiving treatment for a lung infection.
The South African presidency advised that the country’s former leader is “in good spirits and enjoyed a full breakfast this morning”.
“The doctors reports that he is making steady progress,” continued the statement. “He remains under treatment and observation in hospital.”
Mandela, who is 94 years old, has been hospitalised several times in recent months.
Yesterday, President Jacob Zuma sought to reassure South Africans that Mandela was in good hands and there was no need to panic. “The country must not panic, Madiba is fine,” Zuma told the BBC, referring to South Africa’s first black president by his tribal name.
The office of the presidency has asked for the media and the public to respect the privacy of Madiba and his family.
