PSNI urge parents to control children after petrol bombs thrown

Up to 40 youths were involved in the disturbances in Derry last night, during which 25 petrol bombs were thrown.

THE PSNI HAVE warned parents to ensure that their children remain safe and that their whereabouts are known at all times.

Chief inspector Jon Burrows made the call following a number of disturbances in Derry last night, which involved upwards of 40 young people.

Trouble broke out at approximately 7.30pm in the Fountain area when youths began throwing stones.

25 petrol bombs were also thrown towards vehicles within the Fountain estate and a number of bins were placed on the road before being set alight.

Burrows said:

I would urge all parents to know the whereabouts of their children and to ensure they are safe and not involved in incidents like we saw in the Fountain area last night.
The possibility of serious injury or death is very real when lethal weapons such as petrol bombs are thrown.
The disorder in the area also put members of the community at risk as emergency services vehicles were unable to access certain areas of the city for a time last night.

There were no reports of any injuries or arrests and the area was reported calm by midnight.

May he rest in peace. Are we beginning another winter season of fire related death among elderly lone residents. Please make sure your relatives have smoke detectors with fresh batteries. God bless those alone.
