Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore addressing the Labour Party conference in Galway last year Laura Hutton/Photocall Ireland

Labour conference to be held in November despite calls for earlier date

The party’s national executive today met and agreed to hold its conference on the 29 and 30 November despite calls from party chairman Colm Keaveney for an earlier date.

THE LABOUR PARTY conference will be held at the end of November despite calls from the party chairman for the event to be held earlier and before October’s Budget.

A meeting of the party’s national executive “agreed by consensus” that the conference be held on the 29 and 30 November in Leinster House today, according to a Labour spokesman.

This was despite calls from party chairman Colm Keaveney, who lost the party whip last year, for the conference to be brought forward in the wake of the Meath East by-election result which saw Labour’s support plummet to below 5 per cent.

Keaveney was also keen that the national party meet to discuss issues prior to the Budget – which is due to be held on October 15 – and had, according to the Labour spokesperson, brought forward a motion that the conference be held in September.

However the executive instead opted for the end of November date.

Keaveney said this evening that he was “delighted” that a date for the conference had been secured.

Can’t let a little thing like the grassroots having their say before the budget interfere with the big picture Eamonn, right?

Disgusting behaviour, I won’t be voting labour ever again.

To many problems for labour to survive – to many ministers making asses out of themselves – one or two more high profile mistakes and that’s it
Well done the Irish public – u have realised to bring down the government u don’t need to focus on it as a whole u just need to topple the smaller party- which is happening
Labour are falling faster than any party before- and the truth is the only way Gilmore will save Labour from total wipeout is to Topple the government stating he has enough with austairity and I don’t know if that would be good enough

After the budget is not very clever, wider party push for labour issues before the budget would help force their policies.. But then again they don’t really give a shit what their members think as they have served their purpose.

The Labour Party do not believe that they will be gone before their November conference but the way they are thinking that having their conference in November that the people will think it is too cold to protest at it and the Labour Party know there will be no Guards available to cover the crowd control MORANS AND TRAITORS = LABOUR PARTY

They have sold their Soles for a few pieces of Gold and insured the Rest of us will be paying for it for the rest of our Lives.
