GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the cultivation of cannabis in the Kerry region have seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €160,000.
The plants were recovered in a planned search of a house in Rathmore, about 20 kilometres east of Killarney.
Gardaí said around 200 plants were recovered, in faviour stages of maturity.
The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.
No arrests have been made.

Cops here have it easy these days targeting people who grow a bit of smoke for themselves and make them out to be drug pushers while the real sc#m are out there robbing killing and selling real drugs but it seems to be an easier shift for the cops to raid a house with ten plants and put a crazy price on it,it’s a disgrace but this is Ireland run by the old school and until the younger generation do anything about it things will stay the same

Any figures Kevin on how much it costs the Taxpayer to Police a Plant every year? I know plenty of Gardaí that couldn’t care less what Adult’s got up to in comfort of their own home.
Very difficult to get that specific figure but we can just look at the drug squads budget and find a viable way to divide by each drug to get a rough idea of how much money is wasted. In terms of money wasted you would also have to take into account the money and time wasted in the judiciary system along with the social, mental and health costs.
We’ll take that as lots of wasted €’s so that could be redirected to Social Services, Public Sector Wages etc.
Indeed, I have been busted for half a gram recently, 5 guards and a sniffer dog ransacked my house. I was taken to court and was told that I commited a very serious crime, and since I had a previous conviction dating back to 1991 (for similar amount), a third appearance could result in a jail sentence. 200 euro fine. For half a gram!!!

Seriously though, how many potholes in Kerry could be filled with €160,000? (presuming you could find a buyer with that kind of money…..) Would it not be better to sell and add the money to the council exchequer?

legalize it and be done with it, we are talking about a single plant that has been proven 2have numerous medical benefits and no one has od’d on..EVER. think of d jobs that could be utilised out of this industry? not 2mention the decrease in crime that it would cause therefore leaving gardai free 2take care of real criminals. its a joke. when it was legalised in amsterdam crime rates were down by 80% within 5yrs.
