€16.2 billion in exports from Enterprise Ireland clients last year

The most successful sectors were engineering, software, internationally traded services and medical devices.

ENTERPRISE IRELAND HAS announced that its client companies achieved record exports of €16.2 billion in 2012, up €1 billion from the previous year.

The greatest wins came from sectors such as engineering, software, internationally traded services and medical devices, while the outstanding geographical performance came from the US, Asia Pacific and South America.

The announcement was made today by Ministers Richard Bruton, Eamon Gilmore and John Perry as well as Enterprise Ireland CEO Frank Ryan.

Enterprise Ireland said today that the strong performance by Irish companies over the past year puts them in a “very healthy position” to capitalise on this growth.

It said 2013 will see a record number of ministerial-led trade missions with an increased focus on high growth economies in Asia, South America and the Middle East backed up a wide range of inward buyer visits, trade fairs, seminars and embassy events.

The companies involved in today’s announcement are responsible for 300,000 jobs and spend over €18 billion in the Irish economy each year by winning business all over the world, Frank Ryan said today.

Minister Bruton said that the export figures, which set a new record, are “very promising for employment growth over the coming years”.
