Here's where the 58 new Dublinbikes stations are set to be located

The scheme is set for a massive expansion later this year.

Click here to see a larger version of this map. Green dots indicate proposed new stations, orange show existing stations.

THE MAP ABOVE is not the greatest but it will give you a rough idea of where Dublinbikes is planning to locate its 58 new bike stations as part of its expansions plans due to be rolled out later this year.

Dublin City Council announced last week that the hugely successful bike scheme will be expanded with 950 extra bikes and 2,000 bike stands set to be rolled out to the east and west of the city.

It is hoped that works will commence this October and be completed during July 2014. There are 33,000 long term Dublinbikes subscribers with the bikes being used on a daily basis anywhere up to 7,000 time.

Thanks to the former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Labour councillor Andrew Montague who first proposed the Dublinbikes scheme.

There must be all of about 5 cycle paths in Dublin that are separate from the road. Cyclists have as much of a right to be on the road than any other road user.

Cycle paths are often used for parking too, sometimes illegally but often they are paid parking spaces so you can’t use them. Cycle paths should be to the left of footpaths, especially near bus stops.

Great to see this. Just need more proper cycle lanes now (not paint on a bus lane). More two way lanes would be great too. Less and slower cars in the city would also required. Bit of education for vehicle drivers wouldn’t be bad either. Crazy that some drivers don’t even realise a bicycle has an equal right to road use.

Shut down rural garda stations(work in progress). No need for loss making BusEireann or IrishRail routes anymore. And prices of houses in Dublin would go up again for another bubble. Oh yeah, and just stick a big pipe into the Shannon for yer water supply…country fixed.

Dublin metro has a population of 1.8 million people. That is a fact. End of.
Dublin is a world ALPHA- city, and is still booming in terms of inward investment and MNC’s. Dublin will be a major global city within the next 50 years due to it’s economic growth, population growth and infrastructural growth (which is actually a joke at this stage). Point being, Dublin will be bringing in a huge chunk of Government revenue and needs to be looked after. The rest out the country obviously needs serious investment, but without a functioning capital, that aint gonna happen buddy. Think of the long term. Transportation is a very important factor. I love grapes.

Dublin metro area has 1.187 million people in order to bring that to 1.8 million you would have to add all of county kildare, Louth and Meath. What Dublin drastically needs is more efficient commuter options in and out of it.
There’s no arguing that Dublin is irelands economic hub, saying it subsidises the rest of the country I wouldn’t agree with. It is up to individual councils to implement this in their own areas, if they are smart like dcc was they will get private industry to pay for it in return for advertising space etc!!

County Dublin has a population over just over 1.2 million. However the Greater Dublin area, or GDA is 1.8 million people. My mistake, I am not sure of the metro population. Dublin generates 48% of national GDP. Dublin contributed 62.4% of all corporation tax revenue. 32% of the State’s workforce (excluding mobile workers) worked in Dublin City and suburbs. Between 1999 and 2011, it is estimated that Dublin added approximately 150,000 jobs, almost a 30% increase despite the recent economic contraction. 548,400 people were employed in the Dublin Region in Q3 2012 which accounted for 30% of the total number of people employed in the State. @Eoin Bishopski. Agreed compared to other cities Dublin is still a bit of a joke. The ticketing system for the Dart for example is antiquated and needs to be made zonal like the luas system. It was a bit pathetic that an integrated ticket system only appeared last year as well. There is though a lot more than the transport that needs to be looked at to make Dublin feel like a proper city as well, not sure the Irish have the mentality to create a proper metropolis.

Some quality begrudgery going on here. Let’s sum up the begrudgers demands: DCC stops using money from Dublin taxpayers to benefit said taxpayers, locals and visitors with a very good, useful and worthy scheme and instead sends it down the country so some part-time publican gombeen councillors can buy a few more votes and keep their noses in the trough. Is that a fair summation of your demands?
Maybe if you rural folk stopped voting for the local gombeen incompetent you’d also have some decent facilities put in place.

A councillor told a friend of mine that they are only interested in putting in bikes east to west, won’t even consider north and south, despite the fact the biggest percentage of cyclists in Dublin live in rathmines!typical bureaucracy…

Dublin bikes is a city council scheme. Tallaght is in County South Dublin. In most countries a town the size of Tallaght would be a separate city able to run its own affairs.

(Cycle lanes in Dublin are death traps – avoid at all costs if you want to live) Why did they come up with this pattern for the distribution of bike stations it makes no sense. They’re doubling the costs to 20e per year so I’m out. The map is brutal.

This is a good article. I think every road bike lover follow this article. It would be nice to see them extending out beyond the canal, and the city council must have somethin against north west and south west city locations…
Saying that its a great idea and a well run amenity any extension is welcome!! The ticketing system for the Dart for example is antiquated and needs to be made zonal like the luas system. It was a bit pathetic that an integrated ticket system only appeared last year as well. The only station needs is another garda station to keep track of all the undesirables out there. Much easier for everything and the countryside won’t be spoiled for future generations. Kids could be sent to the grannies for holidays dublin families could adopt a country woman as their rural relation. You can see also details : http://empireroadbikes.com/
