12 people, including a child, shot at New Orleans' Mothers Day parade

Up to 400 people were participating in the parade at the time; three people were seen running from the scene.

A DOZEN PEOPLE – including a child as young as 10 – are believed to have been shot at a parade in the southern US city of New Orleans, police said.

Garry Flot, a spokesman for the local police department, said details surrounding the incident were still unclear but “we believe 12 people were shot.”

Among the victims was a child aged between 10 and 12 years old.

Flot told AFP that no one was killed and that three to four people were in hospital for surgery. He declined to provide further details.

Local broadcaster WWL-TV reported that the shooting took place at a Mother’s Day parade and three suspects were believed to have been involved.

The Times-Picayune newspaper quoted New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas as saying there were about 300 to 400 people in the parade and some 200 people in the area of the shooting.

Three people were seen running from the scene, according to Serpas.

The newspaper also reported that one of its reporters, who was participating in the parade, heard six to seven shots being fired.

The way that this survey is misleading. It’s fairly impossible to initiate contact with somebody via email unless you know their address. It would trying to guess their mobile number. Facebook is similar to a directory so you have the advantage of looking them up. So of course Facebook will trump email on first contact.

Must people I know – and I’m not a student – don’t "email" on Facebook but will chat. Email is still a primary channel of communication.

Yes, 168 is far from a realistic sample size to start drawing conclusions and issuing statements.

No one in my year sends emails, most only have an email to be able to use Facebook/social networking sites. 95-100% of my year have a Facebook.

Interesting. I would have thought that students would have been encouraged to have a linked in page set up in order for them to acquire employment.

    Any one on Google yet?

I think what the survey is highlighting is what Brian mentioned above. If you look for someone on facebook you will most likely find them and have a profile photo to hopefully verify you have the correct person. Even if you preform a google search on a name, facebook results are usually within the top 5 links
The same can be said for Linkedin
