Manx2 to withdraw Belfast-Cork route next month

The airline that operated the plane on which six people died this month is to cancel the route from March 14.

COMMUTER AIRLINE Manx2 has announced it will withdraw all services on its Belfast-Cork route from next month, in the wake of the air crash at Cork airport earlier this month in which six people were killed.

In a statement released this evening, the airline said it had carried out an operational review of the route, on which the ill-fated flight had been travelling when it crashed on landing shortly before 10am on February 10.

The company said it would continue to operate the flight for two weeks, until March 13, in order to minimise passenger disruption, but that all bookings for after that date would be fully refunded.

The airline’s other routes would remain fully operational, however.

Manx2 had launched the route on which flight MN7100 was travelling just last September, with flights beginning on September 8.

The route had only been taken up by Manx2 after Aer Arann had withdrawn its services on the route last summer after it went into examinership.

Manx2 had operated two daily flights in each direction along the route.

TBH I only became aware of him in the last 3 or 4 years. I stopped watching TV and films about 20 years ago, entertainment news is a big no no for me as well.

However, about a year ago I ended up watching an interview with Truman Capote on youtube. Afterwards I came a cross a reference to Philip’s portrayal of him so I downloaded it and watched it. Superb performance.

That said, and no disrespect meant either, the UK actor Toby Jones gave a far better performance as Capote.

Actually Ib Jorgensen, your comment above was idiotic and ill informed.

Do you have evidence that people with addictions get addicted through choice?

“or a father to end up like this shows what a weak fool he really was”

Perhaps he was in fact extraordinarily strong for making it to 46 years old when he may have wanted to kill himself since he was 12. What do you know about it?

I’m looking forward to your response.

His comment was not ill informed, it hit the nail on the head. Mr Seymor was an amazing thespian, way beyond the realms of a regular actor, but he was an idiot, albiet a fcuking idiot. No one at any point if his life stuck a needle in his arm, he did it! Its time you all realised that addicts are a victim of themselves, only themselves. Stop blaming circumstances for their inability to live a productive life , so many have come from less and achieved so much more.

Well david, addictions come in all shapes and sizes – but the end results are the same. There’s a case just reported on in the IT on an anorexic girl that won’t accept food, bulimia, sex addiction, drug addiction, drink addiction, prescription drug addiction and on it goes.

” Its time you all realised that addicts are a victim of themselves, only themselves.”

Actually it’s time you realized that in terms of the mood altering addictions, that’s not so. Take for example a baby born to a heroin addict that’s born an addict.

In fact research shows very clearly that if you were born to alcoholic parents and adopted at 6 weeks old your likelihood of alcoholism is still 6 times higher than the general population.

What’s your point David? Tough love? I’d say it’s likely those same people had an overdose of tough love in the first place.

And that baby can be weaned off of the substance that they deem him or her to be addicted to, without need for a lifetime subscription to a methadone clinic or a free bus pass, or a free ride in life. Addiction is a personal choice, which affects all , including those inutero, it becomes an elephant they never asked for. As for those other asshats who hang on O’Connell , they saw junkies as they grew up, they werent forced to do it, they chose it, they own it .

    There you go again.

The one true and only study carried out on alcoholism started off at the end off WW2. It ran as a longitudinal study by Harvard university for nearly 70 years. It followed 600 addicts, and their children, and even grandchildren.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Natural_History_of_Alcoholism_Revisited

Track down the book, or post you email and I’ll email it to you on pdf if you want to save yourself the e30. It getting difficult to find in print. But it’s also considered the greatest book ever published (as it has research) on addiction ever published.

That’s what wrong with you people you are obsessed with celebrities, you live your life admiring and worshiping someone you never even met,i may add you mean nothing too them either you are just a cash cow.

That’s why you will never achieve greatness .

It’s very sad that he has died. However, your run of the mill, non-famous heroin addict dies with the needle in his arm, and where is the outpouring of sympathy? Just because this man was a talented actor, he has been elevated above junkie status, when in reality, the only difference is that he was found in a nice Manhattan apartment instead of a dingy flat or alley.

Maria, I must say I was thinking something similar but from a different angle.

The fact that someone who was a junkie could also be such a powerful and moving and engaging actor, and could garner such tributes from those who knew him as also being a wonderful human being should make us all think twice about how ready we are to dismiss junkies we see on the streets.

It’s so easy to say (like Alan above) “everyone knows drugs are bad so don’t do drugs”, but it’s just a refusal to engage with, let alone try to understand, the realities of addiction, of how and why people start down that road, and how hard it is to escape it.

Yes, people will be kinder and more forgiving of this particular junkie because he was a terrific and deservedly much-loved actor. But we should refuse the double standard, not by condemning PSH for his addiction, but by *not condemning other non-famous junkies for theirs.

Logic prevails. He is a man, yes he had a job that made his work accessible to everyone, but I do not get why it makes the news. We are a world who idolise these people for no other reason than they did something in front of a camera. Rip to the man, but the man who goes out and works everyday to provide for his family is more of a man in my opinion

“Addict by choice”?! Contradiction in terms.

Yes, he may have chosen to take hard drugs at one point, and I’m sure he knew far better than you that that was a mistake. But once you are addicted your choice is much diminished. So easy to condemn people when you don’t take the time or the thought to consider the realities. And the reality is no one is an “addict by choice”.
