REVELATIONS THIS WEEK that Barack Obama’s administration has continued with Bush-era surveillance tactics – including data mining and telephone record collection – has shocked many US citizens.
On Wednesday, the Guardian revealed that the National Security Agency can obtain data about every phone call made by Verizon customers. That report was followed today by the Washington Post whose reporters got their hands on a document that showed the NSA and the FBI had access to the central servers of Apple, Google, Facebook and six other Internet companies.
Complaints about the disruption to civil liberties quickly led to comparisons between Obama and his predecessor, George W. Bush, culminating in this photo amalgamation.
What do you think? Do the Democrat and Republic leaders have more in common that they would care to admit? Should the White House have stopped such practices or are the agencies correct in their suggestions that the information accessed through this means is “critical” to the War on Terror?
