Four stores are set to open their doors over the summer Photocall Ireland

100 jobs on offer as HMV relaunches in Ireland

Store managers and sales assistants are being sought for outlets in Dublin and Limerick.

RECRUITMENT IS UNDER way to fill 100 positions at HMV, as the entertainment chain prepares to open four Irish outlets later this summer.

The retailer is set to reopen stores at three Dublin locations – Henry Street,  Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and Dundrum Town Centre – as well as one at Limerick’s Crescent Shopping Centre.

The news comes after restructuring specialists Hilco acquired HMV from its administrators in a deal worth an estimated €59 million.

It is expected the new stores will be back in business by mid-August, with around 25 staff employed at each location.

Excel Recruitment has been tasked with the staffing process, and ads for full and part time jobs are now on display at the company’s website.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, the firm’s managing director Barry Whelan said there had been a huge interest in the jobs from former HMV workers, and that they hoped to see “a lot of ex-employees come back”.

Obviously these jobs are open to anyone – we’re looking for people with a passion for music and entertainment and high level of experience in customer service.

Hilco is also hoping to open three more outlets in the short-term, including one on Dublin’s Grafton Street, although a move back into the landmark store close to St Stephen’s Green seems unlikely. The premises is currently on the market at an annual rent of  €1 million.

Whelan said the ultimate aim was to re-establish HMV in Ireland with a footprint comparable to its 2012 level of 16 stores, although he said it may not be possible to reach that figure.

Around 300 people lost their jobs when the receiver appointed to the chain’s Irish business closed all of its stores in February.

Watched the documentary on netflix, “Is this William Shakespeare?”

Very illuminating. Well worth a see for anyone interested in the Bard or art in general.
