The Daily PollTHE SEVENTH ANNUAL Legalise Cannabis Ireland protest will take place in Dublin today with fresh calls for legislation. Independent TD Luke Ming Flanagan is currently working on a new bill that would make it legal for people to both purchase the drug and grow the plants themselves.
Opponents to the legalistion of the drug have warned that it could result in more people using it, it can be a gateway drug and may increase other drug use and there is some uncertainty over the effects of cannabis.
However those in favour of legislation say that regulating it would reduce the risks of contaminated drugs, it is less harmful than other legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, and could even yield in excess of €1 billion a year in tax revenue.
