G8 protester fast-tracked through court after failure to remove disguise

Police said the 19-year-old was also charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest

A 19-YEAR-OLD male who was arrested in Bedford Street, Belfast, at a G8 summit protest has been charged with disorderly behaviour, resisting police and failure to remove a disguise when required.

Police said that he appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court and as part of the G8 criminal justice strategy, he was ‘fast-tracked’. He received a conditional discharge for disorderly behaviour, £150 fine for failure to remove a disguise and £150 for resisting arrest.

The 19-year-old had been part of a small group of proteters who made their way from the Falls Road to Belfast City Hall. To date there have been only two arrests – one in Belfast and one in Eniskillen over the past two days.

Commenting on the policing and security operation today ACC Alistair Finlay said that all world leaders arrived safely in Lough Erne and the operation continues to progress “very well”.

This evening there will be a protest in Enniskillen at 6pm and the police have reiterated that protests were welcome “as long as they were peaceful” and said they will continue to engage with protesters and consult with communities.

Most of the kids on here are too young to remember 1998.

I remember working on work projects in 1998. I mustn’t have turned on the radio once that year.

You would know if you were young in 1998. seems every day in the car was hearing one of their hits at the time. Cartoons Witch Doctor followed, just to keep with the 20 years old stuff.

5 out of 10 – surprised there was no question on Le Tour de Dopage which started in Dublin that year and triggered the Festina Affair
