Pipe bomb found in Strabane, an hour north of the G8 summit

The bomb was found just 80km north of Lough Erne in Enniskillen where world leaders are meeting for the annual G8 summit.

A VIABLE PIPE bomb type device was discovered earlier in Co. Tyrone.

The bomb was found in the Springhill Park area of Strabane, just 80km north of Lough Erne in Enniskillen where world leaders, such as US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, are meeting for the annual G8 summit.

The security alert at Springhill Park, which has now ended, was closed to traffic and a number of homes were evacuated while the PSNI carried out its investigation.

The ATO examined the suspicious object and declared it to be a viable pipe bomb type device.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them in Strabane on 0044 845 600 8000. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

80km away, I don’t think they were in much danger. Title should be changed to pipe bomb found in Tyrone.

The title is purposely misleading. An hours drive is a long way away. It takes me two hours to go from Dublin to Monaghan for Christ’s sake and that’s a long distance.

Maybe those gathering at the G8 summit might consider arming the “rebels” with more pipe bombs…eeeh Syrian rebels are they not based in Portadown? :-(

An hour! Like Navan was an hour from Dublin in the old ad. Even back then the inhabitants of O’Connell Street were in no danger from the drilling in Tara Mines. Let’s get back to the real news of the Obama ladies in Dalkey with Bono. Yawn…..

everyone’s a bloody comedian, pipe bombs can be driven in cars, not beyond the realms of possibility that it was put together with a view to disrupting the g8
