POLICE UNDERTAKING SECURITY checks near the G8 venue got a surprise last week when they found a suspicious item from the past.
During ongoing security checks on Wednesday 12 June in advance of the arrival of the eight world leaders, police discovered a suspicious item close to the Loughshore Road, Enniskillen.
The road is near to the Lough Erne venue where the G8 was due to take place a few days later.
After undergoing examination, the item was found to be military ordinance from World War II.
British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted about the find today, saying:
Earlier today, a pipe bomb was found in Strabane, an hour north of where the summit is taking place.

Lough Erne was used as base for flying boats patrolling the north Atlantic for uboats during ww2, might explain why there is old bombs lying around!
