AN ARMY BOMB Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device(IED) in Drimnagh this evening.
The Defence Forces deployed the team in response to a request from gardaí after a suspect device was found outside a private residence near the Mourne Road area of Drimnagh.
The team arrived on scene at 5.20pm. A cordon and traffic restrictions had been put in place for public safety, with a number of nearby houses evacuated. The device was then rendered safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion. The scene was declared safe at 5.55pm.
The component parts of the device was taken to a safe military location for further technical examination and exploitation.
It has now been confirmed as a viable device” with potential to cause serious damage or injury if it had initiated”. The Defence Forces said all items of an evidential nature will be handed over to the gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

Very brave people our bomb squad
Why do we hear about these occurrences so frequently, but never hear any more once the device has been made safe. What kind of groups are planting these in the first instance? Absolute thugs obviously, but which specific variety of thugs?

Typically it’s waring drug gangs trying to “off” one another the devices are usually made by dissidents for a fee but more and more gangs are constructing the bombs themselves with info they have gotten from the Internet
Oh all of them. Could be drugs debt cpuld be two gangs fighting. Could be dissidents. They all use them. Thing is noone is going to admit anything even the target or theu get bullet so that’s why you dont hear more

Wouldn’t you hate to live in an area where this shite goes on ffs, nearly predictable now once a city is mentioned you can usually guess with accuracy the location and that’s a shame.

Calling out the bomb squad to a “mates ” house is seen as a practical joke in some places in my day it was a game of knic knack it shows the utter moral breakdown of society

In this case Fergal it has to be this so called “Drimnagh/Crumlin Feud”, involving two outfits engaged in a drug war in the area and including revenge attacks, tit for tat shootings and pipe bombings, attacks on homes, stabbings, assaults on innocent family members etc. Nasty stuff. It’s been going on and off for about 12 years I think.

Dissedents?How so?I think you’ll find its the Irish Government that has dessented.Some people will believe anything.The people who make these bombs are criminals not dissedents as you are led to believe.
