REVENUE HAS SEIZED cocaine and cigarettes in two separate operations at Dublin Airport in the last 24 hours.
Officers from the Customs Service seized 22,600 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €10,530 and an estimated loss to the Exchequer of €9,256 from a Romanian national who was stopped and searched after arriving on a flight from Moldova.
The 23-year-old was found to be concealing 16,000 “Winston” cigarettes and 6,600 “Kiss” cigarettes in his luggage.
He was arrested and appeared before Bridewell Distirct Court yesterday where he was bailed until 22 July.
In a separate operation which Revenue said was intelligence-led and carried out in conjunction with the Garda Immigration Bureau, some 2.08 kilogrammes of of cocaine was seized from a woman from the Dominican Republic.
The 48-year-old woman was carrying the drugs in her carry-on luggage and had arrived on a flight from Punta Cana.
She was arrested by gardaí at Ballymun Garda Station and is due in court at a later date.
Revenue has asked that if businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes, they can contact it in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
