Passengers return to Shannon Airport after evacuation this morning

The airport was evacuated briefly this morning but the public and passengers have now been allowed to return to the building.

PASSENGERS HAVE BEEN allowed to return to Shannon Airport after a brief evacuation this morning.

An unspecified emergency provoked officials at the airport to evacuate passengers at about 7.40am, a spokesperson told TheJournal.ie.

A spokesperson for the airport said passengers and the public had been evacuated after a ‘break glass’ alarm in an operational area was broken, sparking an alarm. It is believed to have been an accident.

Passengers and the public were able to re-enter the building at 8.10am.

No flights have been affected by the incident.

Speaking of airports – I’m stuck here in Waterford airport. Flight to Manchester is cancelled because a bird hit the plane. Need to fly to Birmingham now :(

Well in some ways you should be glad they spotted it, bird strikes as they’re known can seriously feck up a planes engine so you and fellow passengers might have had a lucky escape ;-)

I can only speculate that they are practicing protocol for the possibility that Snowden might attempt a stop over flight at Shannon on his way to South America.

They will nab him and put him on a flight to the US, out of sight of reporters and anyone with a camera phone.
